An exclusive survey carried out by new homes specialist WhatHouse? gives an insight into why people visit its popular website…

Carried out over a few days in June 2016, visitors who signed up to receive details about new homes were asked a series of questions about why they specifically came to

As WhatHouse? is seen as a leading source of information regarding new houses, it’s perhaps no surprise that most questioned (41%) said they visited the website because they were looking to buy a new build home. A high percentage of those enquiries were from first-time buyers, many attracted by the government’s Help to Buy initiatives that are exclusively available on new houses. There was also much interest from investors either looking to buy their first buy-to-let property or add to their existing portfolio.

In recent years, has particularly sought to offer expert mortgage advice through its dedicated mortgage information section as well as its twice-weekly mortgage news and features. Which is probably why 41% also said they were looking for trusted mortgage advice when visiting the site. The variety of issues involved in buying a new home was reflected in 15% looking for information regarding removals and 8% seeking advice on flooring.
The full list of property-related information sought by visitors:

Mortgage 41%
Life insurance 31%
Conveyancing 28%
Removals 15%
Flooring 8%
Conservatories 4%
Gardens 3%

Those who responded also said they would be pleased to be contacted by WhatHouse? with expert advice throughout the process of buying a new house.

The editor of WhatHouse?, Keith Osborne, said: “The results show that buying a home isn’t all about finding the ideal property – it’s about getting as much information as you can about all aspects of buying a new home. That means getting professional advice on things like logistics, finance and home improvement. This survey has confirmed our belief that in addition to listing the latest new homes available, providing high-quality news, features and advice is just as vital in helping house buyers across the UK.”
