Stonehenge, the ancient landscape with over 400 ancient monuments, is a World Heritage site and one of the most recognisable images of the UK.

The Jurassic Coast, made up of 95 miles of coastline in Dorset and East Devon, is another World Heritage site worth visiting.



Castles, historic houses and gardens offer endless sightseeing visits as do the region's abbeys and cathedrals including those in Exeter, Wells, Gloucester, Bath and Bristol. The Georgian spa town of Bath, a World Heritage site with Roman baths, attracts visitors from home and from abroad.

Economy

Tourism is the major industry contributing some £5 million to the region's economy.

The South West has mostly small and medium-sized businesses, although there are a few large companies. There is are also over 1000 foreign companies, many operating in the financial services and technology sectors.

Transport

There are excellent rail links between London and Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Swindon. The M4 and M5 motorways provide good road routes.

Bristol is the region's largest airport and there are smaller ones in Exeter, Newquay and Plymouth.

The region's ports, including Plymouth, Poole, Weymouth and Bournemouth, have links to the Channel Islands, Spain and France.
