You can use www.new-homes.co.uk to search for properties and to contact the developers of those you like. Make an appointment to view the home. You can print out and use our New Homes Checklist to take down notes about the inside and outside of the property when you look round it. If the new home is still under construction, you can visit the site, see the plans and look round a show home.
Ask as many questions as you feel necessary. The sales staff will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the development, its facilities and the home. They will explain the materials used in the construction and any special features incorporated into the design. It's a good idea to discuss any maintenance or service charges at this point.
Ask about community facilities and communal areas. Some house builders are creating entirely new communities, incorporating shops, restaurants, sports centres and even schools, churches and medical centres. Developers also pay close attention to the open spaces around these new communities, sometimes adding parks and woodland to create a better quality of life for residents.
