The City of Aberdeen Land Association (CALA) originally founded in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1875 has built up a reputation for providing the highest quality of product and service, positioning itself at the forefront of property development.
CALA was originally a land management company collecting feu duties and Scottish ground rents, and did not turn its attention to housing development until 1974. However, this diversification was quickly followed in 1976 by a move into commercial property development. In 1985 CALA pioneered the residential development funding market when CALA Finance began.
Its commitment to being market leader paved the way for further expansion and CALA Homes began establishing subsidiaries across England. The Group enjoyed continued success throughout the eighties and nineties, and in 1999 heralded a new chapter in its development. Ten senior members of CALA’s management with the backing of the Bank of Scotland, bought over CALA plc and the company became CALA Group Ltd. in June 1999.
Since being freed of the constraints of being a public company CALA Group Ltd. has witnessed record growth in profits, announcing £20.3m in 2001. CALA has increased its profit before interest and tax at a rate of 44% per annum since 1996.
In 2001 success was further illustrated by growing the CALA Homes land bank to £1bn; CALA Finance’s joint venture revenue totaling £32m; and £45m of commercial development and investment acquisitions by CALA Properties.
CALA has ambitious expansion plans in place to continue to develop and grow the business over the next three years.
