In its initial years Bett was mainly involved in building council homes and shops for the former Dundee Corporation but from the early 1950s onwards began to grow its reputation as a builder of private family homes. The company became listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1967 and the business expanded throughout Scotland and into the North East and North West of England to become one of the UK's leading housebuilders. In 2003 Bett became part of The Gladedale Group, in an agreed takeover and in 2007 the company was rebranded Gladedale. The Gladedale Group, one of the largest private housebuilders in the UK, was restructured in September 2009 due to the retirement of the company's founder and Chairman. The Executive Board was also re-configured under the guidance of Group CEO, David Gaffney. Taking cognisance of the changes in the housing market the decision was taken to return to regional brands, including Bett Homes.
